“Baby Talk” by russ mckay

Jibber, Jabber, jibber
Is how it sounds to you
But just between us babies
It’s “Hey there Bud what’s new?”
You see we have a language
We infants fresh as dew
But we only use it when we see
Other babes who see us too

And we don’t like huge bulging heads
That suddenly appear
Staring down upon us
Too big and way too near
 what’s that you are saying?
Sounds faintly like some words we use
We like your smiles and funny face
But what’s with those “Goo Goo’s”?

It’s easy chatting babies up
We’re a friendly bunch
The only time we’ll stop our talking
Is when it’s time for lunch!
But the real tough thing for us is
Right before we’re two
We must learn a whole new language
Just to talk to you!

The Frog And The Dog

There once was a dog whose best friend was a frog

A very unusual fraternity

A dog should try to always stay dry

But a frog…as wet as can be

The dog would bark as he ran ’round the park

And the frog would croak as he took stroke after stroke

They would smile as they watched each other

And often they’d sit quietly by to just gaze at the sky

The point being…that they were together

But it was a shame that neither one had a name

You see… they both were orphans

But when together… no matter the weather

Their brains pumped out endomorphins

Then one said to the other..”We’re unlikely brothers”

And the other quite quickly agreed

Then they both opted to pretend they’re adopted

A case they could easily plead

If brotherhood they would claim they needed a name

One that conveyed family strength

They thought hard and long

Dismissed ideas that were wrong

Then finally after great length…

They shook paw and claw

Barked… croaked.. and stood tall

Shouting their new names to the land

“I’m BULLDOG” and “I’m BULLFROG”

“Brotherhood…ahh ain’t it GRAND!!!”

A Trip To The Dentist by russ mckay

I have to go to the dentist today
And Boy, I just can’t wait
There are toys and games in the waiting room
It’s gonna be just great

They’ll be lots of other children there
Waiting for their turn
But I might just be the only one
Happy to return

I wasn’t smiling late last week
I had my back tooth drilled
And it didn’t feel much better
When I had to have it filled

But I’m looking forward to today
I’m as happy as can be
‘Cause today I’m not the patient
It’s my sister Melanie!

I got so dirty yesterday
I couldn’t see my skin
Mud is just the greatest stuff
And so fun for playing in

It took a long long time
To get my body clean
I was the dirtiest
My Mom had ever seen

After scrubbing, rinsing, scrubbing
“Am I finished?” Mom said “NOPE!”
“Now that you have cleaned yourself
You have to wash the soap!”

Writing Poetry Is Easy by russ mckay

I decided I’d write poetry

It’s an easy thing to do

You just have to make sure that

The last words rhyme…ah…too!

Heck you could write of anything

As long as you remember

That the last word in each key line

Rhymes with the one…ah..befember.

And don’t forget an important thing

Poetry has a meter

Kind of like the beat of a song

A cadence, pace or natural flow or..ah..rhythmter

Anyway, poetry is a beautiful thing

It lifts our spirits high

Anyone can be a poet

All you need do is…attempt it!

“I Wish You Could Meet…” by russ mckay

I wish you could meet my invisible friend

He’s very special and loves to pretend

Well so do I as I guess you can see

He’s the best friend that a friend could be

Today we’re both going for a walk

We’ll smile a lot and talk and talk

He only gets tired when I do

The same old stuff to him seems new

Please come to see me and meet my buddy

Prepare to laugh ’cause he’s kinda nutty

I think when you meet him you will see

He’s wonderful and exactly just like me

Mister Grieve by sillygrandpa.com

There is a horrible man named Grieve

The ugliest you could conceive

He has a wart on his nose

And he’s got four missing toes

A foul smell stays behind when he leaves!

It seems like he’s always been old

At least that’s what I have been told

He hobbles around

Looking straight at the ground

And his hands are all covered with mold

But seeing him is very rare

Oh, I forgot to mention his hair

I must confess

It’s a straggily mess

But he just doesn’t seem to care

Now that I think back I remember

I didn’t see him last September

Or March, May or June

‘Though it was a full moon

And I think I was out on my stair

Yes, I can remember the night

That I last saw him, what a fright!

The last time he was seen

Was this past Halloween

So I guess that he’s really all right!

SPRING: Check your calendar

Does some of Spring think no “not yet”?
Or is it Winter knowing not when to quit?
Tardy Winters make Spring like Fall
Tender shoots bloom not at all

Spring never condemns the Summer’s start
And Autumn is patient in playing its part
I blame Winter for each seasonal cheat
So I moved Down South and hit “delete”

My Giant Friend by sillygrandpa.com

I have a close friend who’s a giant
And as buddies we’re very compliant
He’s eleven foot two
And he has a great view
Always peaceful, he’s never defiant

Since we can’t play like normal friends do
Our size differences we adjust to
He’s so huge and I’m small
But we sure have a ball
A true friendship enjoyed by few

And when we throw baseballs around
Out on the school’s big playground
We can’t throw back and forth
It’s more South and North
I have to throw up and him down
