Once upon a happy time in a small village in the dell
There lived a kind old gentleman who had a carousel
‘Though there weren’t many children there he’d spent most of his life
Carving and painting prancing horses with the help of his loving wife

He had just finished making his finest carving by far
A beautiful pure white pony that he named “Shooting Star”
Her mane was mainly silver and her eyes a rich deep blue
And when he put on her silver tail he thought that he was through

“She needs a special saddle like you’ve never made before”
His wife whispered to him as he walked out of the door
“My yes…you’re right! It must be something special like no other on this earth
Something…well…that’s MAGIC ’cause that’s what she is worth”

The old carver got some gold foil and some purple velvet too
He shaped and smoothed the saddle and right before he was through
A bright light shone in the heavens right above his shop
The light kept burning brightly ’til he thought it wouldn’t stop

Then suddenly that heavenly brightness slammed into the ground
And when he looked more closely here’s exactly what he found
A small mound of silvery white glittering cosmic dust
Right in the center of a great old huge pile of rust

“My my!” said the carver “What do we have here?”
“Could this be some stardust?” he asked without any fear
And indeed it WAS stardust and he scooped it all right up
Then carefully poured it into his empty coffee cup

Just exactly what to do with his newfound heavenly find
He sprinkled all the stardust on Shooting Star’s new saddle
And smoothed it to perfection with his artist’s paddle

As he stood there observing his latest bold creation
He experienced a strange and completely new sensation
His carved pony moved her head very slowly at first
And then all of a sudden a great loud whinnying burst

There was Shooting Star prancing all by herself
Not on the carousel and not even on the shelf
She was alive…yes she really was
And he knew that that stardust was THE primary cause

Then suddenly he heard a familiar voice upon his ear
Say…”It’s time for breakfast…c’mon and wake up Dear!”
So…he had been sleeping and it was all a dream
But he thought it very real…as real as real could seem

The carver had his breakfast then went out to his shop
But as he opened up the door what he saw…quickly made him stop
The new pony he had carved wasn’t anywhere in sight
She surely was completely gone…disappeared sometime in the night

Then as he looked upward into the dark morning sky
He saw a bright object swoop loop and then fly by
“It’s Shooting Star” he exclaimed “It wasn’t just a dream!”
Proving carousel ponies sometimes are NOT what they might seem!
