THE KID IS SEVENTY by Russ McKay

After a life that’s been filled with levity
I’m finally turning s-s-s-seventy
Even thinking of that number I commence to mutter
And then as I say it… I start to s-s-stutter

Oh yes there are those that have gone before
Crashing through the septuagenarian door
But they always seemed so old to me
Not realizing I would one day be…

Standing in that doorway too
Admitting I’m no longer “new”
But what else can a poor soul do?
And if you’re lucky it’ll happen to you.
