SHELL GAME by Russ McKay

There was a spring many years ago
‘Twas around Easter time, April or so
All the birds were busy feathering their nests
While conveniently consuming all of their pests
Then Lo and Behold without any warning
Very early on a Sunday morning
Kids from everywhere came to the glen
With dozens of colored eggs laid by hen
Eggs were colored all shades of blue, tan and green
A rainbow of eggs like you’ve never seen
The birds quickly got out of the way
As the children ran about shouting at play
“Hide blue ones here…and green ones there!”
The kids hid eggs everywhere
The birds flew
