MAKING FACES by Russ McKay

When I was little and would have a fit
Mom said “Don’t make that face…please quit!”
But I would still keep doing it

Then she would say” I asked you…Please!”
How would you like it if your face would freeze?”
Well I wouldn’t like it not one bit
But that didn’t make me want to quit
But soon I’d tire of that face too
And I’d go on to something new

I wondered if freezing faces would occur
And when I’d talk my words would slur
And folks would gently shy away
And I’d be alone when I would play
But as time went by I didn’t see
That threatened “Freeze” happen to me

But then one day we got a guest
Aunt Hildy traveled from the West
And then I knew it could really happen
Her face would twist when she started yappin’
She must have been a pest like me
When she was young and quite pretty
Now just one look and everyone knows
She’d made an ugly face and it just froze!
